What does a great Technology Intern do?

Data Science:

The purpose of the role will be to contribute to the work of the Data Analytics team in Travelport’s Dublin office. This involves the whole lifecycle of data analysis, including understanding business questions, designing how those questions can be answered using data, gathering and analyzing the data, and presenting the outcomes, answers and insights to the business.

The team is mainly focused on gathering data on Travelport’s customer facing technologies and helping the product management team make their business and investment decisions.

Software Development:

The purpose of the role will be to contribute to the work of a software development team in Travelport’s Dublin office that impacts Travelport customers, making their interactions with Travelport seamless and efficient. This involves the whole software development lifecycle, including learning and understanding how the software is developed, collaborating with the team to design and build new features by coding, testing and debugging software applications. The intern is also going to be interacting with and reviewing code of other engineers.

Responsibilities include:

Data Science:

• Collaborating customer-facing teams and product teams to determine business requirements, specifically those business questions which data can answer.

• Working with product teams to enable data capture at the appropriate points in Travelport Digital’s products

• Analysing traffic data, user interface data, e-commerce funnels and other sources of data to determine business value using a variety of technologies

• Creating data transformation pipelines and aggregations using Spark with Java/Python

• Building customer-facing reports and dashboards using a variety of business intelligence tools (Google Analytics and Looker)

• Packaging and presenting findings to stakeholders

Software Development:

• Collaborating with the team to deliver products.

• The ability to create and code appropriate solutions from broadly described challenges.

• Documenting, debugging and testing new software applications.

• Learn about the Agile software development cycle and how it applies to the software development lifecycle.

• Proactively learning about new technologies.

Who we are looking for in this role:

Data Science:

• Students majoring in Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science and other related fields.

• Must have excellent English, written and spoken.

• Curiosity and a keen interest in learning is essential.

• Capable of managing multiple tasks. Tasks often overlap with one another.

• Good attention to detail.

Software Development:

• Students studying a related degree and looking to complete an internship as part of their course

• Knowledge of core computer science concepts such as object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem-solving, and complexity analysis

• Be familiar with one or more of the following developer skills: Java, C/C++, PHP, Python, Ruby, MySQL, Scala, Java Script, CSS, HTML5

• Self-motivated and results-oriented

• Ability to interact with cross-functional teams

• Intellectual curiosity and passion for solving challenging problems using technology

UX Design:

• Students looking to complete an internship as a part of their degree

• Researchers need to be good communicators and have good interpersonal skills.

• Must have excellent English, written and spoken.

• Curiosity and a keen interest in learning is essential.

• Excellent organizational skills – a lot of research activity is planning.

• Capable of managing multiple tasks. Research exercises often overlap with one another.

• Good attention to detail.
